Circular economy processes to reduce textile waste in the manufacture of personal protective equipment.

The LIFE-CIRTECHTEX project, co-funded by the LIFE program of the European Commission, is gaining momentum in its mission to implement circular economy processes to reduce waste in the manufacturing of personal protective equipment.

Recently, project partners gathered in Barcelona on September 17 for their annual meeting. This gathering provided a platform to discuss progress in each work package, focusing on project coordination, the status of technical activities, and communication strategies. During the sessions, details were shared about the collection of waste generated along the manufacturing chain, as well as the initial trials conducted and challenges faced.

Over the next three years, the consortium, which includes companies from across the textile value chain such as FONTFILVA, SL and technological centers, will focus on classifying and recycling textile waste to reintegrate it into the production process. Once a new product made with recycled materials is achieved, its environmental characteristics will be analyzed.

Participants in the project expressed gratitude for everyone’s commitment and pledged to continue working together to overcome challenges and move toward a more sustainable and responsible production model.
